Colombo Uptown to assist in rebuilding of Tangalle Hospital
The Rotary Club of Colombo Uptown has accepted an invitation to participate in the rebuilding of the Tangalle Hospital which is presently being undertaken by the Buckingham Trust.
The Tangalle Hospital was badly affected by the tsunami of December 26th 2004 and drew the attention of Nick Buckingham a UK citizen who is now residing in Sri Lanka. Nick together with a few other colleagues set up the Buckingham Tsunami Relief Tangalle District Hospital Trust.
The objects of the Trust were:
| 1. |
to fund the renovation, refurbishing and equipping of two surgical wards at the Hospital. |
| 2. |
to fund the construction of new toilets and a kitchen at the hospital |
| 3. |
fund the installation of an incinerator at the hospital. |
The support received by the Trust has enabled them to reach out even further and plan for the additional of new facilities which are deemed necessary to ensure a high quality of medical services at the hospital.
Our Club has agreed to assist in the full renovation and extension of the hospital morgue at a cost of Rs 500,000/=. There is also a requirement for a mobile X-ray Unit which is estimated to cost around Rs 900,000/=
Interested donors could contact us and indicate their area of interest and their available budget and we will provide all the necessary logistics to accomplish the project.
