District Governor commends "Uptown"
for "outstanding work"
District Governor Thariq Thulba paid a great compliment to the members of Colombo Uptown who he said had already done some “outstanding work” in the new year under the able leadership of President Anton Nelson.
Monday was a special occasion for the Club as it marked the official visit of the District Governor to the club.
DG Thariq was accompanied by first lady Shianaz, Assistant Governor Chamila Wickramasinghe and the District Secretary Imran Hassen.
“Visiting Colombo Uptown is always a real pleasure for me as I have some very close personal friends amongst your membership” said DG Thariq.
“Uptown is one of the more dynamic clubs in the district and you have many very knowledgeable and capable Rotarians who have contributed immensely to both club and district activities over the decades” DG Thariq said.
The District Governor and his team met with the Board officials to discuss the club’s plans for the year and then participated in a ceremonial meeting with members, spouses and guests.
Among the highlights of the meeting was the induction of three new Paul Harris Fellows (PHF) to the club. Charter Members and Past Presidents Shabbir Galely and Suthesh Balasubramaniam and Rotarian John Wilson all received their PHF recognition pins from DG Thariq.
There was another special moment during the meeting when the club inducted a new member to its family. Henrik Mortenson of Denmark was inducted as a member of the club by DG Thariq who also presented a special pin to PP Hans Svendson who introduced the new member.
President Anton also presented the District Governor with a cheque for USD 1,000 as the club’s interim contribution to the Rotary Foundation.
The formal meeting was followed by fellowship and dinner.
